Trump Calls on UK to Send Warships to Keep Strait of Hormuz Open

US President Donald Trump has urged the UK and other nations to deploy warships to the Strait of Hormuz to keep the key oil shipping route open amid the conflict with Iran. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called on countries affected by Iran's attempts to close the strait to send vessels in conjunction with the United States.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital trading artery between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, through which about 20 million barrels of oil pass daily. Since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran a fortnight ago, numerous ships have been attacked, effectively closing the strait and driving up oil prices.

Trump wrote: "Many Countries, especially those who are affected by Iran’s attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait, will be sending War Ships, in conjunction with the United States of America, to keep the Strait open and safe." He added that the US would "bomb the hell out of the shoreline" and shoot Iranian boats out of the water to ensure the strait is open.

Iran dismissed Trump's claims that its military capabilities had been destroyed as "fabricated lies." A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said the UK is discussing options with allies to ensure shipping security. However, Rear Admiral Neil Morisetti, who captained British warships in the region, warned that the risks are "too great" to guarantee safety of oil tankers in the strait.

Trump's plea contrasts with his comments last week, when he accused Prime Minister Keir Starmer of attempting to join the conflict after claiming victory. Starmer has defended the UK's decision not to join initial strikes on Iran, stating it is his duty to judge Britain's national interest.
