Adrian Grenier's Texas Film Revival: Actor Sets Conditions for Hollywood Return
Adrian Grenier, the actor who famously left Hollywood after starring in HBO's wildly successful series Entourage, has established a new life on a 46-acre Texas ranch. However, the 49-year-old star has revealed he would be open to returning to showbiz under one strict condition: film production must come to him in Texas.
Texas Becomes the New Hollywood Frontier
Grenier explained to Page Six that the entertainment industry is already moving toward his adopted home state. 'I mean, the truth is, the industry is moving to me,' Grenier stated during an interview on Monday. 'There's $2.5 billion that the Texas state government just put into film and television projects in Texas. They're building three movie studios not too far from me.'
The actor, who gained fame through Entourage and the 2006 cult classic The Devil Wears Prada, sees no reason why production shouldn't continue shifting to Texas. 'I don't see any reason why we wouldn't just continue to film in Texas,' he added emphatically.
From Hollywood Hills to Texas Ranch
Grenier, who was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and attended school in New York City, purchased his first Austin property in 2016. He later founded Kintsugi Ranch in Bastrop, approximately 30 miles from Austin, with his wife Jordan Roemmele. The couple married in 2022 and now raise their two young sons—Seiko, nearly three, and Evren, born last year—on the property.
'It's a party. It's a total party. I love it, absolutely,' Grenier said about their daily life with a toddler and baby. He and his Self Custody co-stars frequently discuss 'how much we love our kids' during their collaborations.
Return to Acting with Texas-Made Film
Grenier recently returned to acting after a four-year hiatus with the short film Self Custody, shot near his Texas home. The project perfectly met his condition of having Tinseltown travel to him. In the bitcoin action-thriller, Grenier plays a wealthy businessman who gives his former employee (played by Garrett Patten) bitcoin as a signing bonus. The story follows Patten's character as he embarks on a desperate journey to reclaim his lost fortune, encountering dangers on the dark web.
During the interview, Grenier was joined by Self Custody co-stars Henry Cejudo and Garrett Patten, who also directed the film.
Reflections on Hollywood Past and Future
While Grenier acknowledges he still has 'a soft spot in [his] heart for California,' where Entourage filmed from 2004 to 2011, he now considers Texas his true home. The actor also addressed his absence from the upcoming Devil Wears Prada sequel, expressing disappointment but understanding.
'Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn't get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there's some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it,' Grenier explained. He remains optimistic about potential future callbacks for spinoffs, noting 'We're all fans of the movie, whether or not we're in it.'
Grenier's sporadic acting career since Entourage concluded in 2011 has now found new purpose through Texas-based productions. With substantial state investment in film infrastructure and his family firmly rooted on their ranch, the actor's conditions for returning to regular acting work reflect a broader industry shift toward decentralized production locations.
