Keir Starmer has proven himself to be absolutely pathetic on defence, according to Esther McVey. The Prime Minister appears to take the public for fools, she writes.
Starmer's Defence Stunt
Starmer clearly thinks the public are fools. Hundreds of Putin's 'shadow fleet' ships have passed through the Channel without being intercepted, but over the weekend Starmer authorised a military intervention. Obviously, this had nothing to do with the resignations of his Defence Secretary and Minister for Armed Forces, or because he cannot find the money to fund his defence plan – that was all just a mere coincidence. Fortunately for Starmer, the Royal Marine Commandos and law enforcement officers from the National Crime Agency just happened to have cameras as they boarded the Russian tanker Smyrtos, capturing the operation on film and sending it to all broadcasters to prove just how tough Starmer is on defence. It is pathetic, to be honest.

Elon Musk Becomes First Trillionaire
Love him or loathe him, Elon Musk should be congratulated on the extraordinary achievement of becoming the world's first trillionaire. The tech entrepreneur behind Tesla, who also owns social media platform X, floated his latest satellite business SpaceX on Friday, and 100,000 UK residents invested in it. After his foray into politics with Donald Trump, some had written off Elon Musk. It seems they were wrong.
Vistry Job Cuts
Vistry – one of Britain's biggest house building companies and dubbed 'Labour's favourite housebuilder' – is seeking to cut a swathe of jobs to preserve cash as it waits for the government's £39 billion affordable housing programme to begin later this year. The company, touted by Labour as the model for how the private and public sector will work together to deliver housing targets, staked its future on Labour being as good as its word. Before the election Labour said it would deliver 1.5 million homes this Parliament, but in reality it is running far short of those housing numbers. The Builders Merchants Federation last week downgraded the sector's 2026 economic forecast from growth of 2.3% to -1.8%. Vistry is likely ruing the day it fell for the promises this government made, just like the rest of the population.
Anti-Monarchy Protesters at Trooping the Colour
How sad that a few sour-faced anti-monarchy protesters tried to spoil Trooping the Colour. Princess Catherine, George, Charlotte and Louis handled the protesters well as they headed down the Mall in an open carriage for the King's official birthday. The small group of sour-faced, anti-British, republican nutjobs – booing and waving banners stating 'Down with the Crown' – did not manage to subdue the enjoyment of hundreds of thousands of people who had gathered to celebrate. They merely drew attention to how few their numbers were in comparison to those cheering on the monarchy, and how miserable and small-minded they are.
Shania Twain at 60
Shania Twain, the queen of leopard print and country pop, is 60. She is performing at Wembley Stadium as the opening act for Harry Styles. He is half her age and a global mega-star but loves her music because his mother always played it. Harry's mum might just be responsible for starting a new generation of fans of country pop. That would impress me much!
