Iran Claims Missiles Hit US Navy Frigate in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian state media has reported that two missiles struck a United States Navy frigate after it allegedly ignored warnings and sailed through the Strait of Hormuz. The incident, which occurred near the port of Jask, has escalated tensions in the region following threats from Iran's military.

According to the Fars News Agency, the frigate entered the global shipping route on Thursday morning "in violation of traffic and shipping security." Iran's Navy issued a warning, but the vessel failed to comply, leading to a missile attack that forced the frigate to retreat and flee the area. The extent of damage and possible casualties has not yet been confirmed.

This development comes after former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that American forces would begin escorting ships belonging to countries "that have absolutely nothing to do with the war" through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump did not specify which countries he meant, but he stated the move was "for the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States." The Iranian military had previously threatened to attack US forces if they entered the strait.
