The New York Yankees have confirmed that Anthony Volpe has been optioned to the minors in a significant setback for the team's former starting shortstop. After days of speculation regarding whether the 25-year-old would be recalled to the major league roster, the Yankees finally disclosed their decision on Sunday afternoon.
Official Statement from the Yankees
In a statement released by the organization, the team declared: 'Following today's game, the Yankees returned INF Anthony Volpe from his rehab assignment, reinstated him from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.'
Recovery and Performance
Volpe is currently on the path to recovery after undergoing shoulder surgery during the offseason. His performance in the 2025 season saw him batting .212 with 19 home runs, 72 runs batted in, and 150 strikeouts. The decision to send him to Triple-A aims to provide additional playing time and refinement as he works his way back to full strength.
More details are expected to follow as the Yankees continue to assess their roster and Volpe's progress.
