The arrival of sunshine has taken my limbs by surprise. Venturing out in short sleeves recently, my neglected, pallid arms looked as though they had just been freed from a plaster cast. If you are preparing to be a bride this spring, you may already be considering how best to restore the skin beneath winter layers. The solution for all of us is an exfoliating body lotion—a comprehensive moisturiser that smooths upper arm bumps, sloughs off dead skin, alleviates roughness, and hydrates dry patches, ready for lighter attire. Several new formulations improve upon their predecessors.
Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion: A Bridal Favourite
I typically recommend Ameliorate to brides who have likely set aside a budget for pre-wedding skincare. More potent than supermarket options, its clinically proven Transforming Body Lotion employs effective concentrations of lactic acid and urea to exfoliate without causing stinging or dryness, alongside glycerin and sweet almond oil to moisturise the newly revealed skin. Now, Ameliorate has introduced a pearlised, lightly tinted version to offer additional cosmetic benefits. The new Illuminating Glow (£24 for 300ml) imparts a subtle, streak-free veil of golden tan to all areas and skin types, which washes off easily with soap and water. It provides a fast and effortless way to look immediately healthier while simultaneously performing the essential exfoliating work.
Grown Alchemist Resurfacing Targeted Body Lotion: Luxury Exfoliation
Exfoliating acids are infinitely more effective and less messy than granular scrubs, but they undeniably have a less pleasant scent. However, I am uncertain how Grown Alchemist has formulated such an effective exfoliating lotion packed with lactic, mandelic, and salicylic acids that boasts the fragrance of a luxury moisturiser. Its new Resurfacing Targeted Body Lotion (£42 for 300ml) is the most delightful body exfoliant I have encountered and has become my go-to for special occasions (for daily use, I prefer Cetaphil Gentle Exfoliating SA Lotion, £14 for 236ml, which gets the job done without frills). Very lightweight and fluid, it absorbs almost instantly—no waiting required.
The botanical, gently minty aroma is shared with its companion product, the in-shower Resurfacing Targeted Body Cleanser (£32 for 500ml). Together, they make a beautiful gift set (especially for those with clinically dry skin, who are often overlooked in the body care treat category), but given the time each product remains on the skin, the lotion will have a greater impact, so I would prioritise that. In the shower, consider Byoma's noticeably effective Smoothing Body Polish (£12.99 for 300ml), which combines a granular scrub with poly hydroxy acids. Alternatively, invest in a loofah.
