A former neurosurgeon has been permanently barred from practising medicine after a series of shocking revelations, including a rape conviction and disturbing social media posts featuring weapons.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) ruled that the doctor's actions were 'fundamentally incompatible' with remaining on the medical register. The decision comes after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman and subsequently posted images of knives and other weapons on Snapchat.
A Fall from Grace
Once a respected figure in his field, the surgeon's career has ended in disgrace following these serious offences. The tribunal heard how he had taken selfies with various weapons while making threatening gestures, which were later shared on social media.
Pattern of Concerning Behaviour
Evidence presented to the tribunal revealed:
- A conviction for rape in 2022
- Multiple inappropriate social media posts featuring weapons
- A complete lack of remorse for his actions
Medical experts testified that the surgeon's behaviour demonstrated a clear danger to public safety and warranted permanent removal from the profession.
Social Media Posts Raise Alarm
The tribunal paid particular attention to the defendant's Snapchat activity, which included:
- Images posing with knives
- Photos showing other dangerous weapons
- Threatening captions accompanying the images
These posts were described as 'deeply troubling' by the panel, who noted they showed a complete disregard for professional standards.
No Place in Medicine
In their final decision, the tribunal stated: 'The nature and gravity of these offences are such that your name must be erased from the medical register. There can be no place in the medical profession for someone who has behaved in this way.'
The ruling means the former surgeon can no longer practise medicine in the UK and his name will be permanently removed from the General Medical Council's register.
