A prominent Russian lawyer, celebrated for securing justice for victims of cosmetic surgery disasters, has tragically died while undergoing a routine hair transplant procedure.
A Sudden Tragedy on the Operating Table
Andrei Kapustin, 32, passed away after his condition deteriorated suddenly following the administration of anaesthesia. The incident occurred at a private clinic in Vladivostok, located in southeastern Russia. Mr Kapustin had reportedly paid £3,000 for the hair restoration surgery.
Prior to the operation, the young lawyer was said to have undergone all the necessary pre-operative checks, including medical examinations, blood tests, and an electrocardiogram. He had also been advised to abstain from alcohol and smoking in the lead-up to the procedure.
A Career Dedicated to Medical Justice
Andrei Kapustin had built a notable legal career specialising in civil cases, particularly those involving failed cosmetic procedures. He successfully fought for compensation for clients who suffered from botched operations.
One of his most significant recent cases involved representing Anastasia Kasyanchuk, 28. He won her approximately £10,000 in compensation after she developed a severe infection and extensive bruising from a 'buttock lift' procedure that used unlicensed and low-quality hyaluronic acid.
Mr Kapustin had argued in court that the clinic operating on Ms Kasyanchuk lacked a proper license, medical documentation, and failed to obtain informed consent about potential risks. The medic involved was ordered to pay for the cost of repairing the damage and for moral damages.
Investigation and Aftermath
The Russian Investigative Committee has now launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Kapustin's untimely death. His devastated family and colleagues are reportedly considering taking legal action against the clinic.
Mr Kapustin is survived by his wife, Alena, 33, who is also a lawyer focusing on medical cases, and their two-year-old daughter, Katya. His death has sent shockwaves through the legal community and amongst those he helped, highlighting the persistent risks associated with cosmetic surgery procedures.
