Deidre Sanders has shared a health update with This Morning viewers, four years after her cancer diagnosis. The ITV star spoke ahead of the show's phone-in segment, which focused on difficult diagnoses.
This follows the recent news that former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 66-year-old revealed the news on his Prime Video series Clarkson's Farm, telling co-stars Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Irish. Presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley sent their well-wishes, with Cat saying: "Jeremy later confirmed that he's being treated for prostate cancer; we're all sending out love to him and his family."
Handing over to Deidre, Ben noted that Jeremy's news might have brought back memories for her. She responded: "Yeah, it's true. A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in my breast. But the good thing is, like Jeremy's, it was caught early. I had a lumpectomy, I had radiotherapy, I'm still on drug treatment for it, but I feel fine. I so, so hope that Jeremy also has such a good outcome. The great thing is, he has been caught early, too."
Deidre has been open about her health since her initial diagnosis in 2022, when cancer was found in her right breast. In 2024, she was diagnosed a second time after a lump was discovered in her left breast during an annual mammogram. At the time, she said: "To be honest, the symptoms I had the first time were a coincidence and not actually a symptom of the cancer, as it turns out. An efficient GP put me on the cancer pathway, and I got a very rapid check and treatment. I've felt well, I haven't felt tired or run down." She added: "I couldn't feel anything, it's very tiny, so there's nothing to feel. It's purely down to the mammogram, which showed it up. I had an ultrasound and a biopsy, and it revealed it was cancer."
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
