A nine-day charity livestream organised by Polish influencer Piotr Hancke, known online as Latwogang, has raised an extraordinary £52 million (250 million zlotys) for children battling cancer. The marathon broadcast, which commenced on 17 April and concluded on Sunday evening, has set a new global benchmark for livestream fundraising, surpassing the previous record by more than threefold.
Unprecedented support from celebrities and athletes
The event, streamed from Warsaw, attracted significant backing from a host of celebrities, musicians, and sports personalities. Notably, tennis champion Iga Swiatek and Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski lent their support, helping to drive donations and viewer engagement to unprecedented levels. At its peak, the livestream drew an audience of 1.4 million simultaneous viewers, a new record for online viewership.
Funds to aid Cancer Fighters Foundation
All proceeds from the marathon broadcast are designated for the Cancer Fighters Foundation. Its president, Marek Kopysc, expressed profound gratitude, emphasising the foundation's mission to assist "innocent children who fight the hardest battles every day." The funds will be used to support paediatric oncology treatments and improve the quality of life for young patients and their families.
The success of this event highlights the power of digital platforms in mobilising charitable giving and demonstrates the immense potential of influencer-led initiatives in raising awareness and funds for critical causes.
