Purepower Nutrition Recalls Two Products in NI Over Mispackaging Allergy Risk
Purepower Nutrition Recalls Two Products in NI Over Allergy Risk

Two popular food items marketed at health-conscious consumers and gym-goers have been urgently recalled across Northern Ireland. The recall, prompted by a serious packaging error and an undeclared allergen, poses a possible health risk to people with a milk allergy or intolerance.

Details of the Purepower Nutrition Recall

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an official alert concerning all batches of Purepower Nutrition's Chicken & Chorizo Paella (400g) and Chicken Chow Mein (400g). The products, sold in retailers including Tesco, have been mispacked. Specifically, the Chicken & Chorizo Paella packs contain the Chicken Chow Mein meal.

This error is critical because the Chicken Chow Mein contains milk, an ingredient not declared on the Paella's label. The FSA states this presents a clear risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or its constituents. As a precautionary measure, both products are being recalled, even though the Chow Mein itself is correctly labelled.

What Consumers Need to Do

The recall applies to all 400g packs with use-by dates up to and including 17 January 2026 for the Chicken & Chorizo Paella and 15 January 2026 for the Chicken Chow Mein. Purepower Nutrition has issued point-of-sale notices in stores to inform customers.

The instruction from the company and the FSA is clear: if you have bought either of these products, do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. The company has confirmed that no other Purepower Nutrition products are affected by this recall.

Company Response and Allergy Alert Protocol

Purepower Nutrition, which specialises in sports and nutrition products, has advised that it is contacting relevant allergy support organisations to ensure their members are aware of the recall. Consumers with concerns can also contact the company directly via quality@purepowernutrition.com.

This incident is classified as an official Allergy Alert by the FSA. Such alerts are issued when a food product must be withdrawn or recalled due to incorrect or missing allergy labelling, representing a direct risk to public health. The FSA emphasises that businesses have a legal duty to ensure their food is safe and accurately labelled.
