This Morning presenter Josie Gibson has stunned her fans by unveiling a remarkable five-stone transformation, achieved through sheer determination and a unique historical experiment, all while publicly shunning trendy weight-loss injections.
The Journey to a New Physique
The 40-year-old TV star, known for her bubbly personality on the ITV daytime show, has been open about her long-standing battle with her weight over the years. Her figure has famously fluctuated, seeing her shrink from a size 20 down to a size eight back in 2014, a feat she followed with the release of two fitness DVDs. However, the weight gradually returned, leading to another chapter in her wellness journey.
Now, looking better than ever, Josie's secrets have been laid bare in her new Channel 5 programme, 'The 1970s Diet: Could It Work for You?'. The two-part series, which aired on Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm, documents the Bristol-born star overhauling her lifestyle by fully immersing herself in the eating, exercise, and even fashion trends of the 1970s.
Embracing the 1970s Lifestyle
Guided by a nutritionist, Josie followed an authentic meal plan from the decade, which included smaller portions and classic dishes like boiled potatoes, liver, and spam. She threw herself into the experiment wholeheartedly, stating the importance of showing every aspect of the process. Beyond diet, she explored the era's distinctive exercise routines and flamboyant fashions, complete with flares and garish prints, which she declared her favourite style period.
Josie confessed to The Mirror that a surprising fitness test revealed she was at a 'superior fitness rate' even before starting, despite being overweight. The experiment proved enlightening, showing her how fundamentally different approaches to food, activity, and shopping were half a century ago.
A Natural, No-Shortcuts Philosophy
Crucially, Josie has been vehement that her impressive weight loss did not involve any surgical shortcuts or so-called 'fat jabs'. Writing candidly on social media earlier this year, she insisted her method was old-fashioned 'blood, sweat and tears'. "I didn't get a gastric bypass; I got off my big a**e, moved more, ate less and educated myself on what I was stuffing into my body," she declared.
She detailed following the 'Do The Unthinkable' plan from MuscleFood, a 12-week programme of delivered meals and workouts, for six days a week with one 'cheat meal' day where she avoided bingeing. Explaining her aversion to weight-loss injections, Josie said she prefers a natural route and does not want to "mess around" with her body, though she understands why others might feel desperate enough to try them.
In a past revelation, Josie also disclosed that in 2016 she underwent a tummy tuck procedure to remove 6lbs and 13 inches of loose skin, a result of her previous substantial weight loss, telling New magazine at the time that it allowed her to finally see a flat stomach.
