Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Trishna Bharadia has emotionally revealed her battle with a brain tumour in a candid social media post on Thursday. The 46-year-old, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in her late twenties, found fame in 2015 when she competed in the non-celebrity version of Strictly, dubbed 'The People's Strictly,' a special four-part series for Comic Relief.
Health Update Shared on Instagram
On Thursday, Trishna took to Instagram to disclose that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour two months ago and underwent surgery. She assured followers she is now recovering well. Her post read: "So the universe thought that multiple sclerosis wasn’t enough for my brain to contend with and two months ago I had surgery for a type of brain tumour. I’m recovering well with support at home and the surgeon is pleased with how it went. I can absolutely say I’m a bionic woman now as I have metal plates and screws in my head!"
Gratitude to Medical Staff and Family
She expressed deep gratitude to the hospital staff, particularly the nurses in the recovery unit whom she described as "angels in scrubs." She also praised her neurosurgeon for guiding her through the major operation "with confidence, care, and compassion." Additionally, she thanked her twin sister for being by her side throughout the ordeal, ensuring she didn't "descend into a crazy mess of panic."
Trishna emphasized that recovery is "a marathon, not a sprint" and encouraged anyone affected by a brain tumour to seek support from The Brain Tumour Charity, whose information, support, and counselling she found invaluable.
Outpouring of Support
The TV star received an overwhelming wave of support from fans and organizations. One follower wrote: "Saddened to read this Trishna. You're an absolute trooper and I wish you a speedy recovery! You've got this. Sending you much positivity and love." The Brain Tumour Charity responded: "We're thinking of you during this time and wishing you a speedy recovery. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and showing the realities of living with a brain tumour." Another admirer said: "So sorry to hear this and what you have had to go through. Sending you much needed positive energy, prayers and a speedy recovery. Take care."
Strictly Come Dancing Journey
Trishna first gained fame as one of six members of the public with inspirational life stories chosen to compete on 'The People's Strictly' in 2015, hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. She was partnered with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec and scored 35 points from judges Anton du Beke, Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman, and Bruno Toniolo. The scores were for guidance only, and the competition was ultimately won by former Royal Marine medic Cassidy Little, who lost part of his leg in Afghanistan in 2011, dancing with Natalie Lowe.
Career as Patient Advocate
Since her time on Strictly, Trishna has built a career as a patient advocate and patient engagement consultant, working extensively across the media. She continues to inspire many with her resilience and openness about her health challenges.
