A self-confessed coffee addict has found a way to enjoy her daily fix without overindulging. After years of struggling with moderation, she now limits herself to a single cup a day, a change she says has improved her wellbeing.
The woman, who previously drank up to five mugs daily, adopted the new habit after attending a retreat where only one cup of freshly ground coffee was allowed per day. She took great care in choosing when and where to enjoy it, savouring every sip. Surprisingly, she maintained the practice after returning home.
She now treats her coffee as a mindful ritual rather than an automatic consumption. She sits down to enjoy it, often at a local cafe, and finds that better quality coffee reduces her desire for more. If she craves another cup, she asks herself whether she is actually thirsty or just seeking a break, often opting for herbal tea instead.
The change has brought her a sense of clarity and wellbeing, she says. She notes that her body has adjusted, and on rare occasions when she has two coffees, she feels uncomfortably wired. She concludes that excess is detrimental, not coffee itself, which has health benefits in moderation.
