Dan Dotson, 62, who has been flipping storage lockers since he was just 11 years old, recounted the remarkable discovery during a YouTube video in November 2018. The professional auctioneer runs American Auctioneers with his wife Laura and has seen many unusual items pass through his auctions, but nothing compared to this.
The Negotiation That Followed
The plot thickened when the buyer received a call from a lawyer representing the storage unit's previous owner. The legal representative initially offered £455,400 ($600,000) to buy back the unit and its incredibly valuable contents.
When the lucky finder declined this substantial offer, the lawyer doubled it to a staggering £910,700 ($1.2 million). At this point, the man agreed to return the storage locker and its contents, walking away with a life-changing sum while the original owner recovered their forgotten fortune.
