Experts have warned that a common nose symptom could indicate a silent killer condition. Nosebleeds may be linked to high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, which affects roughly a quarter of UK adults.
High blood pressure means the heart must work harder to circulate blood, putting strain on organs and increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) states that most people have no obvious symptoms, making regular checks important.
However, the BHF lists nosebleeds as a possible indicator, alongside blurred vision and headaches. The link remains debated, but research from 2020 found that people with hypertension had a 47% higher risk of nosebleeds and were 2.7 times more likely to need emergency care for severe episodes.
