Television personality Davina McCall has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer almost exactly one year after undergoing major brain surgery to remove a rare benign tumour.
Double Health Battle
The 58-year-old presenter shared the news on Instagram this Saturday, explaining that she discovered a lump in her breast while filming ITV's The Masked Singer. McCall underwent a lumpectomy nearly three weeks ago and has now been given the all-clear by doctors, though she will require radiotherapy in January as a precaution.
In a candid video message, the former Big Brother host explained how a sign in the toilets at the Lorraine studios prompted her to take action. "I found a lump a few weeks ago and it came and went," McCall said. "But then when I was filming The Masked Singer, the show Lorraine put signs on the back of their toilet doors saying 'check your breasts' and every time I went for a wee I did that, and it was still there."
Early Detection Saves Lives
The mother-of-three emphasised the importance of early detection, revealing that her cancer was caught "very, very early" due to her vigilance. Following a biopsy that confirmed breast cancer, she underwent successful surgery to remove the small tumour.
"It was very, very small so I got it very, very early, which is incredibly lucky," McCall explained. "But I am so relieved that I have had it removed and that it hasn't spread." Despite the positive outcome, she will undergo five days of radiotherapy in January as what she described as an "insurance policy" to remain cancer-free.
Support System and Emotional Journey
McCall has been supported through both health crises by her fiancé, celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas, 47. The couple, who went public with their relationship in 2018 and got engaged earlier this year, have faced these challenges together.
The TV star admitted to feeling "very angry" when she received her diagnosis but said she has since found a more positive mindset. She thanked medical staff, family, and Douglas for their unwavering support during this difficult period.
This health scare comes just one year after McCall underwent a gruelling six-hour operation to remove a 14mm colloid cyst from her brain in November 2024. The rare benign tumour affects only three in a million people and was discovered during a routine health scan.
McCall ended her emotional Instagram post with a crucial message to other women: "The message here is know your boobs. Notice any changes. Don't procrastinate. Get your free checkups. And never ignore a niggle."
Fellow celebrities including Julia Bradbury, who has also battled breast cancer, Amanda Holden, and Penny Lancaster were among those offering support and well-wishes in the comments following her announcement.
