Mathew Horne, best known for his role as Gavin in the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey, has announced that he and his wife Celina Bassili are expecting their second child. The couple, who already have a three-year-old son whose name they have kept private, are preparing to welcome a daughter in March.
During an appearance on Gyles Brandreth's Rosebud podcast, the 47-year-old actor revealed that his daughter's middle name, Joy, will serve as a tribute to his late mother, Glenis Horne, who died in 2019. 'Joy was my mother's middle name,' he explained. 'And it will be the middle name of my daughter, who is due in March.'
Horne, who married Bassili in 2021 in a private ceremony in Norway, spoke about the support she provided after his mother's death. 'I met her about a year before my mother passed away,' he said. 'And then I lost my mum, and Celina stood by my side throughout what was a really wretched time. Our relationship grew and grew, and my love for her grew and grew. And I just knew from that experience that I wanted to be with her forever.'
Reflecting on his mother, Horne shared: 'She sadly passed in 2019, which is a pretty pivotal moment in my life. She was a nursery nurse, and I was very much a mummy's boy. And I miss her dearly.'
In the same podcast, Horne also discussed the loss of a former girlfriend to leukaemia in 2004. He described the relationship as one where they were 'really close friends' and noted that the connection remained even after they had separated.
