Love Island's Uma Jammeh opens up on anxiety battle and hypnotherapy success
Love Island star shares candid mental health update

Love Island 2024 contestant Uma Jammeh has delivered a raw and honest update to her followers, revealing the ongoing reality of her mental health battle despite her seemingly picture-perfect life. The model and influencer, who found love with Wil Anderson on the ITV2 show, has spoken candidly about the 'shame' and isolation she felt dealing with anxiety, even after the couple's engagement in July 2025.

From Panic Attacks to Public Admission

In a recent Instagram post asking for holiday tips, the 24-year-old admitted she is "still working" on managing her anxiety, taking it "one step at a time." She prompted a flood of supportive responses after re-sharing a video she originally posted in November 2024, where she first addressed her struggles in detail.

Uma explained that her anxiety, which centres on feeling trapped in enclosed spaces, escalated after a terrifying first panic attack on a train. This had a direct impact on her modelling career, forcing her to miss shoots and take long coach journeys to Manchester to avoid trains, which she described as "really quite upsetting" as she felt she was "ruining my own opportunities."

Finding Relief Through Hypnotherapy

Seeking a solution, Uma revealed she turned to hypnotherapy after researching different methods. The results, she says, were transformative. After just two sessions, she felt a "weight was lifted" and began to feel like herself again. She described the therapy as "one of the best things I've ever done," allowing her to regain excitement for life without the constant fear of an anxiety episode.

Her struggle had become so pervasive that even taking the lift to her flat was a challenge, and the anxiety had begun to "bleed out" into her normal daily activities. Her candid post was shared from an aeroplane during a 10-hour flight—a huge personal milestone—with Uma writing, "I'm SO PROUD :)".

A Message of Solidarity and Support

Central to Uma's message was a desire to break the stigma and isolation surrounding mental health. She expressed surprise at the volume of responses to her initial video, stating, "Just goes to show when you feel alone in something you most definitely are not." She urged followers feeling similar to reach out, emphasising that her hypnotherapist had assured her such issues are "very common."

While celebrating her personal progress, Uma was careful to clarify she was not giving medical advice, instead encouraging others to "do your own research" to find what works best for them. Her update stands as a powerful reminder of the unseen battles many face, even amidst public success and personal joy.
