Sydney radio presenter Jimmy Smith has announced his immediate departure from the popular 2DayFM breakfast show he co-hosted, stating he needs to prioritise his mental health.
A Difficult Personal Decision
The announcer confirmed his exit in a statement released on Friday, describing it as one of the toughest choices he has ever had to make. Jimmy explained that taking a week away from the microphone provided him with the clarity to see how much he had been struggling.
'I'm not okay right now, and I need to step back and focus on getting well,' he said candidly. He expressed profound gratitude towards his colleagues, Nathan Roye and Emma Chow, and the entire production team, stating he was incredibly proud of what they had built together on the Jimmy & Nath with Emma Breakfast Show.
Station Management Responds
Amanda Lee, Head of Hit Metro Content at Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), the parent company of 2DayFM, publicly acknowledged Jimmy's decision. She confirmed that the show would continue for the remainder of 2025 with its remaining co-hosts.
'Nath and Emma will continue to host 2DayFM Breakfast for the remainder of the year,' Lee stated. 'We respect Jimmy's choice and thank him for his contribution to SCA.'
Digital Footprint Vanishes
The announcement coincides with the mysterious removal of the show's podcast episodes from major platforms like LiSTNR and Spotify. Furthermore, the programme's official Instagram account has been shut down, and Jimmy Smith's personal social media profiles have also disappeared from public view.
This comprehensive digital wipe has left listeners searching for answers, underscoring the sudden and definitive nature of his departure from public life as he focuses on his recovery.
