A mother in north London has been left stunned after receiving an anonymous letter criticising her for sending her toddler to nursery. Joanne Flynn, from the affluent suburb of Muswell Hill, found the typed note posted through her door, signed by a woman calling herself 'Sheila'.
The letter accuses Mrs Flynn and her husband of placing their two-year-old daughter in nursery for 'far too many hours', claiming it is 'so disturbing' for the child. Sheila writes: 'There is no point in having kids for someone else to bring him or her up.' She also states that she sees the parents dropping off their child at around 8am while she heads to work.
Mrs Flynn shared a photo of the letter on the Facebook group Muswell Hill Mums and Dads, where it sparked outrage among other parents. One commenter described Sheila as 'so judgemental and smug'. The mother expressed a desire to have a 'face-to-face' conversation with the anonymous writer to discuss the matter.
The letter also claims that the child appears 'very distressed' during drop-offs and pick-ups, and advises that children under four should only be with their mother. Sheila notes that she did not return to work until her own children were five, and only then part-time.
