Mother Faces Double Murder Charges Over Infant Deaths

A 21-year-old mother from Georgia stands accused of murdering her two baby sons in separate incidents spanning three years, with police reporting her disturbingly calm demeanour during the emergencies.

Dakota Taylor was arrested on November 20 following an extensive investigation into the death of her eight-month-old son, Caleb, who died in Jefferson County in January 2025.

Sequence of Tragic Events

The investigation began when emergency services found Caleb unresponsive at a property in Matthews. He was rushed to a local hospital but could not be saved.

At the time of this arrest, Taylor was already in custody at McDuffie County Jail concerning the death of another son, seven-month-old Micah, who died in September 2021.

A grand jury arrest warrant revealed that Taylor allegedly caused Micah's death by obstructing his airways with malice and forethought. The baby's death had previously been classified as undetermined.

Unusual Behaviour Noted by Officers

According to police reports, Taylor's behaviour raised concerns during both incidents. Bodycam footage captured officers describing her reaction as nonchalant while paramedics performed lifesaving procedures on her children.

One officer reportedly stated: I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but the mother didn't... She was very... Like, 'Alright, whatever.'

Another officer confirmed this observation, describing Taylor's attitude as unusually detached while her baby was being carried to the ambulance.

Second Tragedy Unfolds

The affidavit states that on January 8 this year, Taylor allegedly deprived Caleb of oxygen by causing excessive physical and mental pain to the infant.

A family member told authorities that Taylor had dropped Caleb at their home on the day he died, but had placed a blanket over the baby's face. When removed, the relative discovered the infant with blue lips.

Caleb was immediately taken to hospital but tragically passed away.

Legal Proceedings Begin

Following investigations into both deaths, Taylor now faces multiple charges including:

  • Two counts of malice murder
  • Two counts of felony murder
  • Two counts of cruelty to children

Taylor was under Georgia Department of Child and Family Services supervision between the two incidents. She is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues to examine the case and has encouraged anyone with information to contact their Thomson office.
