Australian Idol champion Casey Donovan and her fiancée Renee Sharples have shared significant pregnancy news with their supporters this week. The 37-year-old singer and her partner are actively undergoing IVF treatment, with Casey confirming she has completed her initial embryo transfer procedure.
Embryo Transfer Milestone Announced
In a heartfelt video posted to Instagram on Monday, Donovan revealed the couple's progress. "Today @renee.sharples and I did our first embryo transfer," she wrote alongside a montage showing her visit to No 1 Fertility clinic in Melbourne. The singer described traveling back from Sydney after a weekend of performances in New South Wales, expressing gratitude for returning to her partner's loving embrace.
Medical Team Recognition
Donovan extended special thanks to the medical professionals supporting their journey. "Thank you to the amazing team at @no1fertility and a massive thank you to @fertility_queen_dr_burmeister," she wrote, noting her appreciation for Dr Lynn Burmeister who went "above and beyond" during the procedure.
The Waiting Period Begins
"Now we wait... What will be will be," Donovan added, sending "love, light and baby dust" to others on similar fertility journeys. An embryo transfer represents a crucial IVF step where an embryo is placed into the uterus, though pregnancy only occurs upon successful implantation into the uterine lining. Confirmation typically comes through blood testing approximately two weeks post-transfer.
Fertility Challenges and Planning
The couple first discussed their family plans publicly late last year. "We've spoken about it and Renee is now over 40, so she's gone through and done her retrievals and whatnots," Donovan told news.com.au in November. She acknowledged her own need to "find some time to get mine out," referencing egg retrieval procedures.
Donovan faces additional fertility challenges due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which complicates natural conception. This medical condition motivated her decision to pursue egg retrieval. The process proved physically demanding, particularly while she was touring with the Marcia Sings Summer production.
"On the first retrieval, I got 26 eggs and the second one was 28," Donovan explained. "So that's a big thing for your body to have to go through and get back on stage."
Relationship Background
Donovan announced her engagement to long-time partner Sharples in June 2024. Sharing images of her substantial diamond ring, the theatre star captured the romantic proposal moment when Sharples knelt on one knee. "21.06.24 on the strawberry moon of the winter solstice the love of my life asked me if I wanted to do this life together forever," Donovan wrote emotionally.
She continued: "The day I met you, home was no longer a place it became a person and yes, you are a gypsy but there's nobody else I would rather attach my wagon to on this beautiful road trip called life, and with that, I said yes!"
The couple's public sharing of their IVF experience highlights both the emotional and physical dimensions of fertility treatment, offering visibility to others navigating similar reproductive health journeys.
