A passenger browsing the plush toy section of a gift shop at Hobart Airport in Tasmania made an unexpected and delightful discovery on Wednesday morning. Instead of just cuddly kangaroos and dingoes, they spotted a real, live brushtail possum nestled among the stuffed animals.

The possum was found peering out from shelves stocked with toy representations of native Australian animals, including bilbies and Tasmanian devils. Liam Bloomfield, the retail manager of the Lagardère AWPL gift shop, recounted the incident, noting that a passenger reported the sighting to a staff member who initially couldn't believe it.
"She then called the airport management and said: we've got a possum in the store," Bloomfield explained. The airport spokesperson confirmed that the marsupial remained calm throughout the ordeal and was safely escorted out of the terminal without any issues, ensuring no disruption to travel operations.

Bloomfield highlighted that both staff and customers were thrilled by the possum's appearance. The store's team has even started voting on a name for the animal, planning to create a small shrine with a photo and a commemorative post once a name is chosen.
