A major fire erupted at a nursery in south-east London on Saturday evening, sending flames and thick smoke into the night sky and prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Intense Blaze at Rushey Green Nursery
The London Fire Brigade was called to Rushey Green Nursery in Catford, Lewisham, at 6.40pm on Saturday after reports of a fire. Upon arrival, crews found the building heavily engulfed, with video footage showing significant flames and dark smoke billowing from the nursery's roof.
Massive Firefighting Operation
In response to the severity of the blaze, the fire service dispatched eight fire engines and approximately 60 firefighters to the scene. The operation to tackle the fire was extensive, with crews working for around three hours to bring the flames under control.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among firefighters, nursery staff, or local residents, which authorities described as a relief given the intensity of the incident.
