Fans of one of the biggest shows of the year have been left wondering about its future, but now the fate of Widow's Bay has been confirmed. All episodes of Apple TV+'s horror comedy are now available to stream in their entirety, with the dramatic and nail-biting finale dropping this week. This means viewers can now binge-watch the complete 10-part series in one sitting. Even more exciting for devoted fans is that the show's future has already been secured.
Will There Be a Season 2 of Widow's Bay?
Just as fans were reeling from one of the show's most significant plot twists ahead of the finale, Apple confirmed its renewal. Having been lauded as "the year's best new show," "the show of the summer," "one of the brightest surprises on streaming right now," "unlike anything on TV," and a "perfectly executed, absolute gem of a TV show," a second series has been greenlit.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV, confirmed the news, expressing his eagerness for its return. He stated: "From the moment audiences arrived in Widow's Bay, they've been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laugh and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew and the entire team have created."
Regrettably, there's no indication as yet of when viewers can expect the show to return. Apple's other productions offer little in the way of clues either. Ted Lasso had a brief one-year hiatus between its first and second series, before fans endured a two-year wait for the third. Meanwhile, viewers remain in anticipation for fresh instalments of Bad Monkey, which launched in 2024, alongside Murderbot and The Studio, both of which premiered in 2025.
Creator's Cryptic Hint
Hiro Murai, who helmed five episodes of Widow's Bay, including the finale, has described how the opening series functions both as a self-contained narrative and as a springboard for something greater. He told Polygon: "I've always thought about this show as a story about Tom's relationship to the town. The throughline for the whole season is Tom accepting that this place is what it is... really the arc is whether Tom can accept the reality of this place, and if he's willing to do what it takes to sort of protect it."
Murai confessed to making a conscious effort to 'not bother' creator Katie Dippold regarding the forthcoming second series, but hinted that she is exploring various avenues to broaden the Widow's Bay universe, adding that the table has been 'reset' and "there's a lot to play with."
Dippold herself has remained tight-lipped, offering only a tongue-in-cheek teaser: "Season 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there's nothing to worry about." Loyal fans, of course, know better.
Widow's Bay is streaming on Apple TV+.
