US Forces Intensify Iran Strikes on Civilian Infrastructure, Death Toll Rises
US Forces Intensify Iran Strikes on Civilian Infrastructure

American forces have escalated their campaign against Iran for a sixth consecutive night, targeting civilian infrastructure including bridges, airports, power facilities, and a train station. The strikes have killed at least eight people and wounded 20, bringing the recent death toll to nearly 40. More than 400 Iranians have been wounded since the memorandum of understanding that paused the war was shattered by missile exchanges.

Shift in Targeting Strategy

Fresh US strikes mark a significant shift in targeting, with civilian infrastructure now being deliberately bombed. Among the targets badly hit is Iran's Eagle airbase in the south, built to protect Tehran's air force. Bombs have smashed through reinforced roofs and caused extensive damage to aircraft, according to sources. The US has expanded its mission capability in the region and now has some 300 warplanes in the Middle East ready to strike Iran.

Escalation and Retaliation

Sources suggest the latest onslaughts bring the total number of US bombs dropped on Iran to more than 13,000. Iran retaliated by firing missiles at US assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Qatar, where a child was injured by falling debris after air defenses intercepted a missile. Tehran has reiterated its claim that the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its pre-war status, as the US stepped up its blockade of ships entering and leaving Iran.

Threats from Iran and Proxies

After Friday's strikes, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened a 'devastating price' for countries hosting US bases if American attacks continue. A statement from the IRGC said: 'The American enemy and the hosts of its bases in the region should know that crossing red lines and attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure will have a very severe and devastating price to pay.' Iran has also targeted infrastructure of its Gulf neighbors, striking a Kuwaiti power and desalination plant, damaging the water facility. Kuwait relies on desalinated water for about 90% of its drinking water. Officials said they were working to assess the damage and restore operations.

Houthi-Al-Shabab Alliance

The escalation and US desperation to end the war swiftly have been compounded by a renewed threat from the Yemeni Houthis, a powerful Iranian proxy. According to sources, the Shia Houthis have set aside the Islamic schism with the Sunni al-Shabab terror group in Somalia to join forces. Iran has encouraged this alliance, which threatens to block the Bab el-Mandab Strait between Djibouti and Yemen. With Iranian assistance, drone technology has been smuggled to the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabab to help blockade the strait if ordered by Tehran.
