The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued seven yellow heat-health alerts for England, as the Met Office warns that temperatures could reach 32°C in the coming days. The alerts, which cover multiple regions, come as the UK experiences its third heatwave of the year in July.
Affected Regions
The yellow alerts apply to the following seven areas: London, South East England, East of England, West Midlands, East Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, and North West England. These regions are expected to see prolonged hot weather, with the highest temperatures likely in London and the South East.
Health Risks and Advice
The UKHSA advises vulnerable groups, including the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions, to take precautions. Recommendations include staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun during peak hours, and checking on at-risk neighbours. The alerts are in place from early this week until further notice.
According to the Met Office, the warm weather is expected to persist, with temperatures remaining above average for July. The agency stated: "We are likely to see temperatures reaching 32°C in some parts, particularly in the south."
Previous Heatwaves and Impact
This is the third heatwave of 2026, following earlier events in June and early July. Data from previous heatwaves shows an increase in heat-related hospital admissions and excess deaths. The UKHSA continues to monitor the situation and may escalate alerts if conditions worsen.
