Ann Widdecombe Murder Suspect Arrested in Terror Probe

CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment a 28-year-old man was arrested by police in connection with the death of former MP Ann Widdecombe. The video, published by the Sun and Sky News, captures a topless white British man being led away from a property in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Saturday, July 11.

Rearrest on Terror Charges

The suspect, initially arrested on suspicion of murder, has since been rearrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism. Counter-terrorism police have taken over the investigation, citing new information and evidence.

Ann Widdecombe, 78, a former Conservative minister and later Reform UK spokeswoman, was found dead at her home in Haytor on Dartmoor at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, after sustaining serious injuries.

Police Statement

Laurence Taylor, head of UK counter-terrorism policing, said: “Building on the progress made by our colleagues in Devon and Cornwall Police, we now have new information and evidence that means Counter Terrorism Policing is now leading the investigation. We are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack.”

Taylor urged anyone with information to come forward, adding: “Our priority is progressing this investigation quickly, with all the capabilities we have available to us.”
