TUI has announced three major rule changes for UK passengers as part of an update to its Flight Conditions of Carriage. The new rules, which came into effect on June 5, cover name changes on tickets, face covering requirements, and health checks for passengers showing symptoms of pandemic illnesses.
Name Change Policy
Passengers can still make reasonable spelling corrections and minor changes to their tickets, provided TUI can verify the request as genuine. However, the company will no longer honor requests to change the name on a ticket entirely. Voluntary ticket amendments can be made up to 29 days before travel but will incur a fee of £50 or €50 per passenger per booking, plus any fare, tax, or fee differences. Exceptions may be made for compassionate reasons, such as the death of an immediate family member.
Face Covering Requirements
TUI has clarified that passengers must wear appropriate face coverings at the airport and on board if mandated by local government or health authorities. Failure to comply could result in refusal of carriage. Removing a face covering mid-flight will be treated under TUI's disruptive passenger policy, which may lead to further action.
Health Checks and Denial of Boarding
Passengers exhibiting symptoms of a major health outbreak, epidemic, or pandemic will be denied boarding. TUI requires passengers to complete a health check before arrival or departure. These measures reflect the company's response to the Coronavirus pandemic and ensure a clear mandate for future public health situations.
Tickets remain valid for exactly one year from the date of issue. The changes were reported by the Liverpool Echo and are part of a broader legal document split into articles. TUI emphasizes that these rules are designed to protect passengers and staff while maintaining smooth travel operations.
