Trump's Reflecting Pool Turns Green Again After Blue Paint

Donald Trump's $20 million refurbishment of Washington DC's Reflecting Pools has already been overtaken by algae, turning the water green just weeks after a bright blue coating was applied.

Renovation Details

The president had been vocal about the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pools, which included fixing leaks in the granite foundation and applying a blue cover ahead of the US's 250th anniversary. However, the project appears to have issues, with the water now bright green.

Over the weekend, the National Park Service worked to clear lumps of algae from the still water. Part of the renovation involved an 'advanced nanobubbler technology' designed to produce small gas bubbles to control algae. It remains unclear if the nanobubbler is malfunctioning or if high temperatures in DC caused the algae bloom.

Government Response

'The algae is dead and being vacuumed up as we speak,' the government stated, adding, 'We thank President Trump for fixing the Reflecting Pool for good.' Photos from this week showed the pools as dark green, with ducks swimming past.

Trump's 250th Birthday Plans

The reflecting pool renovation is just one part of Trump's overhaul for America's 250th birthday in July. Other events include an Ultimate Fighting Championship event on the White House lawn, plans to mint $1 coins with his face (violating an 1866 law), and a proposed 'Independence Arch' nicknamed the 'Arc de Trump'—a 250-foot arch inspired by the Arc de Triomphe. There are also hopes to transform the National Mall into a race track.
