The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released the most popular baby names in England and Wales for 2025, with Olivia topping the girls' list for the tenth consecutive year and Muhammad leading the boys' chart with 5,957 births.
Girls' Names: Olivia Reigns Supreme
Olivia was the most popular name for girls, with 2,386 babies given the name in 2025. Lily overtook Amelia to claim second place, while Amelia dropped to third. The top three were Olivia, Lily, and Amelia.
New entries to the top 100 for girls include Eliana, Gracie, Anaya, Alba, Marnie, Lilah, and Frankie. Eliana saw the largest rise, climbing 54 places, followed by Anaya and Alba, each up 24 places.
Names that fell out of the top 100 include Jessica (down 44 places), Ellie (down 31), and Amelia (down 22).
Boys' Names: Muhammad Leads, Leo Ousts Oliver
Muhammad was the most popular boys' name, with 5,957 births, accounting for 1.4% of all birth names. Noah and Leo rounded out the top three, with Leo pushing Oliver out of the top spots.
New additions to the top 100 for boys include Vincent, Carter, Stanley, and Ruben. Vinnie rose the most, by 33 places, followed by Ruben (up 26) and Vincent (up 25).
Names that dropped off the top 100 include Bodhi (down 18), Grayson (down 14), and Brody (down 7).
Regional Variations and Overall Statistics
Olivia was the most popular name in three of nine regions in England and was the favourite in Wales. Muhammad topped the list in four of nine English regions but ranked 34th in Wales.
In 2025, there were 585,396 live births in England and Wales: 284,681 female and 300,715 male. The top 10 names accounted for 9.1% of all births.
