King Charles' Environmental Documentary Reveals His Informal Side

A new documentary featuring King Charles will present the monarch as "quite an informal person" according to senior figures from his charitable foundation. The Prime Video film, titled Finding Harmony: A King's Vision, offers unprecedented insight into the King's personality and his longstanding environmental advocacy.

Decades of Environmental Leadership

The documentary chronicles how Charles, during his time as Prince of Wales, championed environmental causes long before they entered mainstream discourse. It details his early warnings about biodiversity loss, deforestation, and climate change - issues he raised when few public figures were discussing them. The film also documents the opposition he faced during these early years of environmental campaigning.

Kristina Murrin, chief executive of The King's Foundation, explained the documentary's unique perspective: "You do get to see him as quite an informal person, telling you about what he believes in, which is not how we tend to normally see him. He is very funny. He is a joy to work with, genuinely."

A Monarch Without Agenda

Murrin emphasized what she sees as the King's unique position among public figures: "There is something fairly unique when you say, if I'm in corporate I'm trying to make money, if I'm a politician, I'm trying to get reelected, if I'm a celebrity, I'm trying to be more famous. He has no agenda. He doesn't need any of those things. His only agenda is help."

The documentary showcases how The King's Foundation, which Charles founded in 1990, has implemented his environmental vision through practical projects. These initiatives focus on community regeneration, sustainable textiles, and preserving traditional skills, with the foundation's headquarters at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire serving as a living example of these principles.

Global Interest and Local Impact

Murrin noted growing international interest in their approach: "I think in the last few years we've realized as the number of people wanting to come here and see what we're doing as we've applied it in lots of different locations around the world, there is a huge degree of interest."

She highlighted the local community's connection to Dumfries House: "When you see how people respond and how the local community here feels about this place now, they're incredibly proud of Dumfries House and they will describe it as theirs and they feel like they've been part of the regeneration."

Royal Screening and Global Release

The documentary features narration by Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet, who serves as an ambassador for The King's Foundation. His Majesty will attend a special screening at Windsor Castle alongside the Queen, with other royal family members including The Duchess of Edinburgh and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester also expected to attend.

Finding Harmony: A King's Vision will be available on Prime Video from Friday, February 6, reaching audiences in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The film aims to communicate environmental principles that Murrin believes are universally relevant: "We've tried to make the principles come across so that doesn't matter who you are, there's something in there for you."
