Freeview has issued a new alert warning that popular TV channels may stop working this week for users across parts of the UK. The disruption, caused by high pressure weather conditions, is expected to last from Tuesday, July 7, until Sunday, July 12, 2026.
High Pressure Causes Signal Interference
According to Freeview, the current spell of glorious sunshine has brought a band of high pressure that weakens TV signals from local transmitters as they are lifted higher into the atmosphere. Signals from more distant transmitters can also travel further than usual, interfering with local broadcasts and causing fuzzy or glitchy screens.
"Freeview viewers across parts the UK could see some disruption to their TV reception from Tuesday 7th July to Sunday 12th July 2026," Freeview confirmed in a statement on its website. "High pressure weather conditions could disrupt the TV signals which Freeview use."
Advice for Affected Users
Freeview advises users not to retune their TVs during this period, as reception will be restored once the high pressure passes. "You are advised not to retune your TV during this time, reception will be restored once the high pressure passes," Freeview said.
This is one of the longest periods of disruption announced so far this year, following several earlier signal alerts.
Alternative Options
For those seeking uninterrupted viewing, Freeview suggests switching to broadband-powered platforms like Freely or Sky Stream, which are connected via the internet and unaffected by weather. Freely is free with a compatible device, while Sky Stream starts from around £15 per month. These services offer live and on-demand TV, pausing, recommendations, and integration with apps like Prime Video, Netflix, and Disney+.
