Alice Evans Speaks Out on Grief and Legal Battle

Actress Alice Evans has publicly confessed to being in a 'dark hole' following a series of devastating personal blows, including the deaths of her father and brother within six months, coupled with a significant legal setback in her ongoing court battle with ex-husband Ioan Gruffudd.

Heartbreaking Family Losses

The 57-year-old actress shared the news of her father David's passing just two weeks ago, which came a mere six months after her brother Tony also died. Evans described this period as traumatic, revealing the profound impact these losses have had on her emotional wellbeing.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Evans offered fans an update on her current state, writing: 'I just wanted to post because yes - I am in a bit of a dark hole at the moment but holy smokes - your messages have completely blown me away.'

She expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from followers, stating she felt 'so grateful, so humbled, so - almost speechless' by the kind words she received during this difficult time.

Courtroom Defeat Compounds Grief

Adding to her emotional turmoil, Evans recently suffered a major legal defeat when a judge ruled to renew a domestic violence restraining order against her for five years. The order was originally granted to her ex-husband Ioan Gruffudd in 2022 following what the court described as a campaign of online harassment.

During the trial, Gruffudd recounted years of online abuse targeting both him and his new wife, Australian actress Bianca Wallace. Evans confessed on the witness stand to bombarding social media with denigrating posts about her former spouse and offered apologies for her behavior.

Judge's Scathing Assessment

Despite Evans' expressions of regret, Judge Michael Convey did not accept her attempts at contrition, citing multiple violations of the original restraining order. In his ruling, the judge described Evans' actions as a 'concerted, focused, intentional and caustic campaign of denigration' aimed at Gruffudd and Wallace.

The judge noted that Evans' 'threats of force and intimidation... caused Ioan to fear for his and Bianca's physical safety' and that her 'pattern of abuse' had isolated him from their children.

Isolation and Gratitude

In her emotional Instagram post, Evans revealed the extent of her isolation, writing: 'The girls and I are quite isolated from family and we've taken so many blows...' She was referring to her two daughters, Ella, 16, and Elsie, 12, from her marriage to Gruffudd.

Despite her current struggles, Evans emphasized her appreciation for the support system she has found online, stating: 'I feel so lucky. Honestly, you are all getting us through it and I will never stop being grateful to you all.'

Previous Tributes to Family

Earlier this month, Evans paid tribute to her late father, posting images of him with her late mother during their younger years. She credited him with 'teaching her how to laugh' and 'not care what people think.'

Six months prior, she had mourned the loss of her brother Tony, whom she called her 'best friend' and praised as a 'beloved uncle' to her daughters.

Ongoing Personal Conflicts

The legal battle represents just one aspect of the ongoing conflict between Evans and Gruffudd since their split in early 2021. Their divorce was finalized in 2023, but they have continued to clash over financial matters and custody arrangements for their two daughters.

Gruffudd has since moved on, marrying Bianca Wallace in April last year. The couple welcomed their daughter Mila in November, adding another layer of complexity to the family dynamics.

Evans concluded her Instagram message with an apology for sounding 'maudlin or overly emotional,' explaining she was 'genuinely overwhelmed by the kindness of humans.' Her candid admission provides a rare glimpse into the personal struggles behind the public legal battles that have dominated headlines in recent years.
