Brits are being urged to make one change to their shower routine during the heatwave to help their homes feel cooler. With temperatures set to reach 35°C in parts of the UK on July 10, experts recommend strategies to keep both people and houses cooler.
Lukewarm Showers and Towel Tips
Faz Salloo, Director at Bathroom Fort, advised: "If you are showering to cool down in a heatwave, keep it short and use lukewarm rather than very hot water. Try to do it at least an hour before bed so the room has time to clear and your body can settle." He also recommended running the extractor fan after finishing and removing standing water from shower screens with a squeegee.
Damp towels should be spread out properly rather than left in a pile, because they hold moisture in the room and can worsen condensation and musty smells. This simple change can significantly reduce humidity and help the room cool faster.
Weather Outlook
The Met Office has warned that thunderstorms may occur in parts of the country. Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree said: "Many people will understandably want to know how long the current heatwave is likely to last. While temperatures are expected to ease across southeast England through the weekend and into next week, it won't be a straightforward end to the warm weather."
High pressure is expected to remain in charge through much of next week, gradually migrating northwards. An easterly wind will become established in the south, shifting the hottest conditions towards the southwest. Some areas that have seen the highest temperatures will begin to cool, but it will remain very warm, especially in the southwest, where heatwave thresholds may continue to be met.
The overall signal is for continued fine, dry and very warm weather at times for many parts of the UK into next week, with a chance of thunderstorms spreading into parts of the south and southwest.
