Home Bargains Spray: Viakal Best for Shower Screens, Say Cleaning Fans
Viakal Spray Best for Shower Screens, Say Cleaning Fans

A cleaner has urged homeowners to 'forget everything' else and use a single spray from Home Bargains to tackle shower screen grime. The product, Viakal, is a limescale remover and anti-watermark spray that has won over cleaning enthusiasts on social media.

Facebook Group Flooded with Recommendations

On the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, user Lisa Evans posted: 'I'm struggling with water marks and limescale on my shower screens. My parents used to have a spray that worked great, but I can't remember what it was. Any ideas?' More than 80 people responded, with Viakal being the most frequently recommended product.

Annika Karrison said: 'Viakal is the best. Forget everything else. I squirt a line across the top of my shower door and a line across the centre. Wearing gloves and using a damp cloth, I wipe the Viakal over the entire door. I then do the same to the side panels. I then rinse it off, starting with the first panel, and that's it. Very satisfying to see the difference. I do this in my client homes, and it always looks great.'

How to Use Viakal Effectively

Sami Hill wrote: 'I use Viakal with a dry cloth, it's amazing.' Julie Raine and Ruth Hudson also endorsed the product, calling it the best for limescale. Gwyneth Calderbank shared a different method: she applies Viakal before getting in the shower, then sprays it off while showering, achieving 'perfect results'.

Viakal is available at Home Bargains and most supermarkets for around £1.50. It is designed for use on chrome, stainless steel, ceramic, tiles, and plastic, but caution is advised. The spray should not be left on any surface for too long, and users should ventilate the area by keeping windows open during and after cleaning.

Why Shower Screens Get Dirty

Shower screens are primarily marked by hard water deposits, known as limescale, and soap scum if not cleaned regularly. These deposits can etch the glass surface, making it look permanently dirty even after cleaning. Regular cleaning or wiping with a squeegee after each shower helps prevent buildup. While natural solutions like white vinegar are popular, some users prefer commercial products—Lisa Evans noted she disliked the scent of vinegar, opting for Viakal instead.
