A cleaning enthusiast has shared that a £1.50 spray from Home Bargains is the most effective solution for removing limescale from shower screens. The product, Viakal, was repeatedly recommended by members of the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group after a user asked for advice on tackling water marks and limescale.
Cleaners and users praise Viakal
Lisa Evans posted in the group: 'I'm struggling with water marks and limescale on my shower screens. My parents used to have a spray that worked great, but I can't remember what it was. Any ideas?' Over 80 people responded, with Viakal mentioned most frequently.
Annika Karrison said: 'Viakal is the best. Forget everything else. I squirt a line across the top of my shower door and a line across the centre. Wearing gloves and using a damp cloth, I wipe the Viakal over the entire door. I then do the same to the side panels. I then rinse it off, starting with the first panel, and that's it. Very satisfying to see the difference. I do this in my client homes, and it always looks great.'
Other recommendations
Sami Hill wrote: 'I use Viakal with a dry cloth, it's amazing.' Julie Raine and Ruth Hudson both recommended Viakal, saying it's the best for limescale. Gwyneth Calderbank revealed she applies Viakal before getting in the shower, then sprays it off while she's in the shower, achieving 'perfect results'.
Viakal, available for around £1.50 in most supermarkets, is a limescale remover and anti-watermark spray ideal for bathrooms. The product can be applied to chrome, stainless steel, ceramic, tiles and plastic, though care should be taken.
Alternative suggestions and usage tips
Other commenters suggested white vinegar, but Lisa noted she didn't like the scent and preferred commercial products. Viakal should be used carefully, as leaving it on any surface for an extended period is not advisable. Brits should also ensure adequate ventilation when using cleaning products, given their considerable strength. Keeping windows open during cleaning and for a short while afterwards can be beneficial.
