A wedding dress found abandoned on a Tyne and Wear Metro train has been reunited with its owner, though the mystery of how it ended up on the train remains partially unsolved. The dress was handed to a Metro driver at Pelaw station in Gateshead at around 7:50 PM on Wednesday, June 10. It was stored in lost property for weeks before a public appeal led to the owner coming forward.
Owner Came Forward After Social Media Appeal
Lynne Dickinson, Station Delivery Manager at Nexus, confirmed that the owner, a woman from Gateshead, saw the post on Nexus's Facebook page and contacted them. "It's fair to say she was relieved that the dress had been found safe," Dickinson said. The dress was lost during a house move, but how it ended up on the Metro remains unexplained.
Exceptionally Rare Lost Item
Dickinson noted that finding a wedding dress in lost property is "exceptionally rare." The dress was safely stored at the lost property office until it was claimed. "It was great to be able to reunite the rightful owner with the missing item. It's a happy ending to the story," she added.
Nexus thanked the public for their help in tracking down the owner and shared an update on social media, stating: "The wedding dress in our lost property has been reunited with its owner. It was lost during a house move, which didn't include the Metro, a few weeks ago so the mystery remains partially unsolved but it's back where it belongs."
