In a significant shift for the long-running ITV serial, Daniel Brocklebank is preparing to film his final scenes for Coronation Street, concluding a monumental twelve-year tenure playing the beloved vicar, Billy Mayhew.
End of an Era on the Cobbles
The actor, who is 45, first stepped onto the Weatherfield cobbles in 2014 and has since become a cornerstone of the show. A source close to the production revealed, "It's the end of an era for the show with Billy's time on the cobbles coming to an end. He's been central to some of Corrie's biggest storylines in the past decade but all things come to an end."
While a representative for the soap confirmed to the Daily Mail that Daniel is still currently filming, his departure marks the close of a defining chapter. Reflecting on his time, Brocklebank said back in May, "I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute... I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds."
A New Chapter on the Stage
Fans of the actor need not despair, as Brocklebank has already embarked on a exciting new venture far removed from life in Weatherfield. He has begun rehearsals for a theatrical production of Young Frankenstein at the Liverpool Everyman Playhouse.
Daniel will take on the lead role of Dr Frederick Frankenstein in the musical comedy, which is scheduled to run from 3 December 2025 to 3 January 2026. The production, directed by Nick Winston, will also feature a cast including Jessica Martin, Amelia Adams, and Pete Gallagher.
A Fond Farewell and Major Final Storylines
Producer Kate Brooks paid tribute to the departing star, highlighting his immense contribution. "We're incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie's biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul's MND," she said, referencing the recent and harrowing motor neurone disease plot. "An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes - he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles."
Brooks also teased a dramatic send-off for the character, confirming, "Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit." This promises an unmissable and emotional exit for the vicar.
Beyond his iconic role in Coronation Street, Daniel Brocklebank is a seasoned television actor, having appeared in other major UK shows such as Casualty, The Bill, Doctors, Emmerdale, and EastEnders throughout his career.
