Modern Family Star's Heartbreaking Loss

Ariel Winter, the 27-year-old actress best known for her role in Modern Family, has shared devastating news with her followers - the loss of her beloved Samoyed dog, Casper.

The emotional announcement came via Instagram on Friday, where Winter posted a heartfelt tribute to her companion of 11.5 years, describing him as her "first baby and best friend."

Remembering a Special Companion

In her lengthy caption, Winter painted a vivid picture of Casper's personality and quirks, calling him "the most special, funny, empathetic, loving, independent, sassy, clumsy and, of course, handsome good boi."

She shared touching details about what made Casper unique, noting his love for children, occasional mischief, cold floors, walks, and his particular fondness for "awoo-ing" at people. The fluffy white dog also enjoyed wearing his Christmas pyjamas and dragon scarf, according to Winter's tribute.

"He loved barking at the neighbour dogs, policing his younger siblings, fish, and a good inner ear scratch," Winter wrote, adding that "above all else he loved us more than anything."

An Outpouring of Support

Five million followers responded with sympathy and support in the comments section of Winter's post. Fellow actor Barrett Carnahan described Casper as "a glorious boy worthy of all the love you undoubtedly gave him," while David Arquette left a simple red heart emoji.

One fan captured the sentiment of many, writing: "Losing them is like losing a part of yourself. I'm so sorry for your loss, and hope you find comfort and healing in the coming days."

Another social media user commented: "Oh Ariel, I'm so sorry. I always looked forward to his fluffy butt on my social media. Losing the love of your life is heartbreaking."

Winter expressed how unreal the loss still feels, admitting: "I keep thinking the hospital is going to call and tell me a miracle happened and I can pick him up and bring him home."

She included a collection of photos showing Casper with herself and her longtime boyfriend, Luke Benward, who she's been with since they adopted another rescue dog, Cobey, back in 2020.

The actress, a known animal rights advocate, currently cares for five other dogs alongside her partner. Just over a week before Casper's passing, Winter had hinted at her quiet suffering with a cryptic Instagram caption about "horrors" persisting.

In her emotional farewell, Winter expressed hope that the "rainbow bridge is a beautiful place filled with everything he loves and NO thunderstorms," adding her wish to see him again one day to "let him know one last time just how much he meant to me."
