Strictly Come Dancing Reportedly Axes Three Professional Dancers for 2026 Series
The BBC has reportedly dropped three professional dancers from the upcoming 2026 series of Strictly Come Dancing, according to recent media reports. This significant shakeup comes as the broadcaster continues its search for new hosts following the departure of longtime presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
Which Dancers Are Leaving the Show?
Gorka Márquez, who joined the celebrity dance competition in 2016 and has reached three finals, will not be returning for the next season. The 35-year-old Spanish dancer met his partner, influencer and presenter Gemma Atkinson, on the show in 2017.
Luba Mushtuk, 36, who first appeared on Strictly eight years ago, is also departing. Despite her long tenure, Mushtuk has not been partnered with a celebrity contestant in recent series.
Michelle Tsiakkas, the 30-year-old newcomer who joined the show in 2022 alongside Vito Coppola, Carlos Gu and Lauren Oakley, completes the trio of departures. Tsiakkas was paired with actor Jamie Borthwick in 2024, marking her first celebrity partnership, but the couple were eliminated in week ten of the competition.
Why Are These Changes Happening?
A source told The Sun that BBC bosses are seeking a fresh start for the embattled program. "Bosses want a fresh start and to bring in new faces after all the drama in recent years and create a new era," the insider revealed.
When approached for comment by The Independent, a BBC spokesperson stated that plans for Strictly Come Dancing 2026 would be confirmed "in due course." Representatives for Márquez, Mushtuk and Tsiakkas have also been contacted for their responses to these reports.
The Ongoing Search for New Hosts
As the professional dancer lineup undergoes changes, the search for new hosts continues to generate speculation. Amanda Holden recently denied rumours that she might be in contention for the role, while criticising other potential candidates as "boring."
Holden told MailOnline: "You see, I am already part of a big show, and I'll happily carry on watching Strictly from the comfort of my lounge." Addressing the show's weekend broadcast schedule, she added: "I've got to remember that I have children and a husband." Holden has been married to Chris Hughes since 2008, and the couple have two daughters: Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13.
While male presenters including Bradley Walsh, Rylan and Roman Kemp are reportedly being considered, Holden has advocated for the BBC to hire two women to replace Daly and Winkleman, urging the corporation to "think outside the box" in their selection process.
These developments mark a period of significant transition for Strictly Come Dancing, one of the BBC's most beloved entertainment programs. The combination of new professional dancers and fresh hosting talent could potentially redefine the show's direction for years to come.
