Shayne Ward Teases Future of Good Ship Murder Amid Co-Star's Coronation Street Comeback

Former Coronation Street actor Shayne Ward has offered intriguing hints about the potential future of his popular Channel 5 murder mystery series, The Good Ship Murder, while also sharing his thoughts on co-star Catherine Tyldesley's return to the iconic ITV soap.

Cryptic Clues About Series Four

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the recent TV Choice Awards 2026, where he attended with partner Sophie Austin, Ward remained deliberately enigmatic when questioned about whether the show would return for a fourth series. "I can't say," the actor and singer revealed with a wink, before adding with laughter, "But I'm sure you'll find out soon. Fingers crossed."

The performer, who starred as Aidan Connor on Coronation Street between 2015 and 2018, confirmed that the current third series still has several episodes remaining. "Series three is out now, and I think we've got about three or four more episodes to go," Ward explained. "Everyone's loving it, which is all we can ask for."

Reaction to Co-Star's Soap Return

Ward also addressed the recent return of his The Good Ship Murder co-star Catherine Tyldesley to Coronation Street, where she has reprised her role as Eva Price. The actor confessed he hasn't managed to catch up with his friend since her comeback to the cobbles.

"I haven't spoken to Catherine much recently because I know how intense it is when you're in the show, especially now she's in the Rovers," Ward shared. "It's a big responsibility." He didn't comment on whether Tyldesley's soap commitment might impact their Channel 5 series.

Fond Memories of Coronation Street

Reflecting on his own time in Weatherfield, Ward expressed deep affection for his three years on the long-running drama. "I loved being on the cobbles and playing Aidan," he revealed. "It was a great three years of my life and something I'll always cherish. To say I was on Coronation Street is one of my biggest achievements."

The actor also noted that his time on the soap marked when he met his partner Sophie Austin, making the period particularly special. Regarding his character's emotional exit storyline, which saw Aidan take his own life, Ward reflected: "It tackled a male taboo and encouraged people to ask, 'Are you okay?' It was handled beautifully and the public responded so well."

Unexpected Fan Engagement with The Good Ship Murder

Ward expressed delight at the enthusiastic response to The Good Ship Murder, sharing an unexpected way fans have engaged with the production. "I knew cruising was big, but I didn't realise just how much people loved it," he admitted. "Some go three or four times a year."

The actor revealed that dedicated viewers have begun booking specific cruises in hopes of appearing as extras on the show. "People have even started booking the cruises because they know we might be filming and they want to be extras on the show," Ward explained. "We base it on the ship and allow people to come on as extras. They could be a waiter, a police officer, a thief, anything. So not only do they get a holiday, they get to be part of the show."

He added that filming typically occurs on the MSC cruise line around March, with fans already making reservations in attempts to participate. The unique opportunity has created an unusual intersection between television production and holiday planning for enthusiastic supporters of the murder mystery series.
