In a move that marks the end of an era for Australian morning television, veteran presenter Mark Beretta has announced his retirement from Channel Seven's flagship programme, Sunrise.
An Emotional On-Air Announcement
The 59-year-old star appeared visibly moved as he shared the significant news with viewers during Thursday morning's broadcast. Beretta revealed he is stepping away after a remarkable 25 years on the morning show and an incredible three-decade tenure with the Seven Network overall.
He explained that the decision came after considerable reflection, stating he had spent 'a lot of long nights' thinking about his future. 'The time is right for me to step away from Sunrise,' Beretta told the audience, confirming his departure from the programme he has helped define.
A Dream Career and Lasting Legacy
Beretta spoke with genuine affection about his long-running role, describing how his work on the show and in sports broadcasting had been his ultimate professional dream. He emphasised that the position had afforded him 'the most extraordinary experiences and memories,' which he will forever treasure.
His 22-year association with the Sunrise family made the decision particularly difficult. The presenter expressed immense pride in having been part of the programme, acknowledging the immense energy the entire team had invested in the show over more than two decades.
'I will treasure all the many good times and many friendships,' he said emotionally, highlighting the personal connections forged during his tenure. He confessed that leaving behind the Sunrise team and the show itself was 'incredibly hard,' underscoring the deep bonds formed during his long service.
