From Hollywood Dreams to Farming Reality
The journey to Fletcher's Family Farm represents a significant departure from the couple's original plans. During a recent appearance on James Martin's cooking show, Kelvin and Liz Fletcher discussed how running a farm was never part of their initial vision.
"As two actors, we thought, you know, Kelvin had been in Emmerdale for 20 years, and we kind of wanted to try something different," Liz explained regarding their previous ambitions. "We thought, 'Well, why not? Let's go to Hollywood and LA and see what happens'."
However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted these plans, with visa processing halting their potential move to America. This unexpected turn of events ultimately led them to discover their current farm, sparking the idea that would become their successful television series.
A Successful Partnership with ITV
Reflecting on the show's creation, Kelvin Fletcher acknowledged the collaborative nature of the project. "We just kind of thought, it's hopefully of interest," he admitted. "It's interesting to us and our journey into farming and to this new life, and then, we kind of pitched the idea, and thankfully, ITV thought it was a good idea, too, and four series later, we're still doing it."
The couple, who have four children together, have embraced their unexpected career shift, with the television programme documenting their agricultural adventures and family life. Their appearance on James Martin's show provided further insight into their busy schedule, with Kelvin confirming they moved straight from finishing series three to beginning work on series four towards the end of last year.
As the premiere date approaches, viewers can look forward to another engaging series that combines family dynamics, agricultural challenges, and the couple's continued adaptation to their rural lifestyle, all captured through the lens of their successful partnership with ITV.
