Death in Paradise fans are still processing Josephine Jobert's departure from the BBC hit show. The actress left the series in 2024 after a dramatic storyline that saw her character Florence Cassell survive a shooting but choose to leave Saint Marie.
Josephine Jobert's Time on Death in Paradise
Josephine Jobert joined the cast in 2015 as Florence Cassell, a detective who rose through the ranks of the island's police force. Her first exit occurred in 2019, but she returned for seasons 10 and 11, and made a surprise comeback in 2024 when her character emerged from witness protection. Viewers feared Florence might be killed off after she was shot while pursuing her fiancé Patrice to an abandoned warehouse. However, DI Mooney arrived in time, and Florence survived. Traumatized, she decided to leave detective work and Saint Marie behind.
Jobert explained her first exit in a video to fans, citing personal and professional reasons. She said: "Everything is fine; it's just that I've been working on Death in Paradise for five years. I loved every minute of it. I'm going to miss the show, I'm going to miss Toby and Ardal and Shyko and everyone, so it's been a tough decision, but that's life."
Life After Death in Paradise
Since leaving Death in Paradise, Jobert has remained busy. She now stars as Deputy Chief Geneviève "Arch" Archambault in the CBC series Saint-Pierre. The show, which premiered in 2025, follows Jobert's character and Donny 'Fitz' Fitzpatrick, played by Allan Hawco (known for Amazon Prime's Jack Ryan), as they uncover a criminal underbelly in the French territory off Canada's coast.
Saint-Pierre has been well-received and recently renewed for a third season, with production set to begin soon. The series debuted on CBC in Canada and later aired on U&Alibi in the UK. Hawco and co-creator Robina Lord-Stafford expressed gratitude: "We're incredibly grateful for the continued support from CBC, our partners at Fifth Season, and worldwide fans. Returning to Newfoundland and Saint-Pierre et Miquelon for Season 3 is exciting, as these locations are key to the show's identity."
Death in Paradise is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
