ITV Announces Replacement for 'Grantchester' as Tenth Season Concludes
ITV has confirmed the successor to its long-running crime drama 'Grantchester' as the show's tenth season reaches its emotional finale tonight, Thursday, February 19. The network will fill the Thursday night slot with the second season of the true crime documentary series 'True Crime Presents: Murder on a Knife's Edge', premiering on February 26 at 9pm.
'Grantchester' Finale Leaves Viewers Emotional
The final episode of 'Grantchester' season ten airs tonight, concluding a series that has captivated audiences since its debut in 2014. The British drama originally followed Anglican vicar Sidney Chambers, played by James Norton, as he solved mysteries in a Cambridgeshire village alongside Detective Inspector Geordie Keating, portrayed by Robson Green. Over the years, Geordie has partnered with other vicars, including Reverend Will Davenport and most recently Alphy Kottaram, played by Rishi Nair.
Season ten, which returned last month, featured gripping investigations and poignant moments, such as Alphy tearfully reading a letter from his birth mother. Viewers expressed their reactions on social media, with one stating on X: "What another brilliant, heartbreaking and heartwarming episode of #Grantchester. Top performances from all the cast. I'm absolutely broken." Another added praise for Robson Green's performance, highlighting the show's impact.
'True Crime Presents' Steps Into the Spotlight
With 'Grantchester' ending, ITV bosses have moved quickly to announce its replacement. 'True Crime Presents: Murder on a Knife's Edge' will debut its second season on February 26, focusing on the case of Wayne Coventry, a 37-year-old father-of-three murdered in October 2019 after a toxic relationship.
The first season of 'True Crime Presents' aired last year, exploring shocking murders with insights from victims and witnesses, including cases like the death of EastEnders star Gemma McCluskie and teenager Shafilea Ahmed. Fans have lauded the series for its engaging storytelling, with an IMDb user noting: "Quite a decent documentary series. Experts and witnesses given an in-depth analysis on five different murders... The stories are all engaging."
What's Next for ITV Viewers
As 'Grantchester' wraps up, it leaves a notable gap in ITV's schedule, but the network aims to maintain viewer interest with true crime content. The final season of 'Grantchester' is scheduled for release next year, while the current season remains available for streaming on ITVX. For now, audiences can anticipate the return of 'True Crime Presents', offering a shift from fictional drama to real-life investigations.
