Viewers of ITV's drama Red Eye have taken to social media to criticise the second series for what they describe as glaring plot holes. The show, which returned on New Year's Day, follows DS Hana Li as she investigates the murder of a US diplomatic courier at Heathrow Airport.
Episode two aired on Friday (January 2) and saw Hana trapped inside the US Embassy after a lockdown is triggered by the killer's presence. She teams up with head of security Clay Brody, played by Martin Compston, with whom she shares a complicated past.
One scene in particular drew criticism: the killer sneaks into the server room, which is apparently not covered by security cameras. "Red Eye... the most important room in the American Embassy, the server room, there are no security cameras... what a load of b*******," one viewer posted on X.
Another viewer pointed out that a fire in the server room was not automatically extinguished, writing: "A fire in the server room, BUT NO AUTOMATIC POWDER EXTINGUISHERS... had enough with this programme..." They described the show as "an absolute farce".
Other viewers noted inconsistencies in the killer's movements. One questioned how the intruder could leave a guarded party room and then watch a camera planted on a British agent's lapel. Another pointed out a "plot loophole" involving a secret door that the head of security knew about but failed to monitor, allowing the intruder to escape.
Despite the criticism, many fans said they were enjoying the series. "This episode is intense," one viewer commented, while another added: "I'm actually loving the villain."
