The BBC has confirmed that the rebooted Gladiators will return for a second series, following its ratings success. The show, hosted by father and son duo Bradley and Barney Walsh, debuted in January and attracted 6.4 million viewers for its first episode.
BBC chief Tim Davie included the series in his list of 'big priorities' for the year during an address to the Royal Television Society on Monday. He said: 'Of course, it means that we will, despite budget pressures, prioritise big national occasions – from the Coronation, Eurovision, the Proms and Glastonbury, to the Olympics and the Euros, or Strictly or Gladiators, Children in Need or even that great drama: Election Night.'
The confirmation comes ahead of the series one grand finale, which airs on Saturday 30 March at 5:50pm on BBC One and iPlayer. The final four contenders are Finlay Anderson, Wesley Male, Bronte Jones and Marie-Louise Nicholson, who will compete in the legendary Eliminator to be crowned champion.
The original Gladiators aired on ITV from 1992 to 2000. The reboot features a new generation of Gladiators, including athletes from CrossFit, Olympic sports, and even a former James Bond actor.
