Al Roker's Golden Ticket Surprise Gets Lukewarm Response From 7-Year-Old
Girl's blunt reaction to Al Roker's golden ticket goes viral

Veteran NBC journalist Al Roker found himself in an unexpectedly awkward situation during Thursday's live broadcast of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, all thanks to the refreshing honesty of a seven-year-old girl.

The Birthday Surprise That Fell Flat

The moment occurred early in NBC's coverage of the 99th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Roker, who has been a staple of the network's parade coverage for decades, had just finished interviewing members of the iconic Radio City Rockettes dance troupe when he brought a young birthday girl named Elliot onto the broadcast.

'We have maybe the next Rockette coming up here. Hi, Elliott. How old are you? Today's your birthday?' Roker asked the child. After confirming she was turning seven, Roker leaned in eagerly with his next question: 'And are you excited to see the Rockettes?'

As Elliott nodded, Roker revealed the special surprise. 'Would you be? Well guess what, Elliot? We've got a very special something for you. Look here. You've got a golden ticket! You get to see the the the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes!'

A Brutally Honest Reaction

One of the dancers then presented Elliot with the glitzy gift. Instead of the expected squeals of delight, the young girl stared at the paper with a look of pure indifference, leaving Roker scrambling to salvage the segment.

'Are you excited?' Roker prompted again, hoping to elicit some enthusiasm. It was then that Elliot delivered the crushing blow with innocent bluntness: 'I did that yesterday.'

The 71-year-old broadcaster immediately engaged in some quick improvisation. 'You did it yesterday! Oh my golly! Well you get to see them again!' he told her, attempting to spin the situation.

Elliot offered a quiet, somewhat unconvincing 'Yay!' in response, which Roker echoed while trying to rouse some genuine excitement. He quickly wrapped the segment by wishing her a happy birthday and telling her to say hello to fellow hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.

Fellow Hosts See the Funny Side

Back in the main studio, Guthrie immediately recognised the humour in the exchange. 'Hey, we saw her yesterday!' she shot back, joining several Rockettes who were laughing at the innocent awkwardness of the moment.

Kotb, who was returning to hosting duties after leaving the Today show in January, also relished the hilarious interaction, showcasing the unpredictable nature of live television broadcasting.

This year's parade, which featured 18 giant helium balloons, 33 mid-sized balloons, 29 floats, and nine performance groups, provided plenty of spectacle, but it was this unscripted moment with a brutally honest child that truly captured viewers' attention and quickly went viral on social media platforms.
